Welcome to my website (visit my blog!)
My name is Eric Scheffel. I'm an economist specialising in macroeconomics (in particular monetary macroeconomics), economic policy and dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) models. Part of my studies also involve applying numerical methods to economic problems, using matrix algebra environments, such as Matlab and Gauss or traditional programming languages suitable for scientific problem-solving such as Fortran and C++. I am a big fan of the Python programming language and make heavy use of the Scipy/Numpy numerical libraries for Python. I also support and use open-source software and employ Ubuntu/Linux as my main productivity environment. Based on Python, I have developed my own toolbox - called PyMacLab - to solve DSGE models using the approximation method of perturbation. .
I currently work in the economics section at Cardiff Business School, where I teach students at entry-, undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
I have submitted my PhD thesis in September 2008 and expect to obtain my PhD in Economics from the economics section of Cardiff Business School (at Cardiff University in the UK) in the summer of 2009. I hold an MSc in Economics from the University of Warwick in the UK.
